Works: Monday 4th December to Sunday 10th December

This week we will be moving into the final stages of our essential maintenance to Ferriby Road Bridge. This is to replace the expansion joints in the carriageway – which thankfully is not something which has to be done often and will not need doing again for many years!

From Monday 4th December to Sunday 10th December the tag lane will be closed northbound daily between the hours of 7pm to 6am. There will also be traffic management in place with all traffic filtered through the toll booths. Similar works on the southbound side of the Bridge are currently planned for the w/c 11th December, and more information will be provided nearer the time.

Please note that you will still be able to cross the Bridge, however, you will need to follow all traffic management and signage. HumberTag customers can still use the Toll Booths.

Drivers are urged to allow extra time for their journeys in order to minimise any potential disruptions.

Works of this nature are weather dependent, meaning that they may need to be cancelled and rescheduled at short notice. Should this occur, more information will be provided on our social media channels.

Important winter maintenance work is set to take place on the Bridge from 7pm this Thursday (30th November) until 6am the following morning (1st December).

Both tag lanes will be closed during this time and there will be traffic management in place across the full length of the bridge in both directions. You will still be able to cross the Bridge and HumberTag customers will be able to use the toll booths. HBB Poetry Competition

We are super excited to announce the winner of our poetry competition today of all days, National Poetry Day!!!

So (drum roll please) a big massive congratulations to David Wilberforce who has won with his poem called A Lockdown Walk Across The Humber.

The judges said David’s poem was both memorable and lyrical.

We know you’ll be dying to hear the poem, but there’s an amazing reason why you’ll just need to wait a little longer.

As part of David’s prize, Hull Uni has arranged for him to work with some professional poets to enhance his work before collaborating with soundscape artists and musicians to create a multi-media reading of A Lockdown Walk Across The Humber. We don’t want to rush the creative process, so can’t set an exact time for release, but hope to share via our social channels by mid-November. The poem will also then be available on our website and via a QR code on the Humber Bridge estate, so you can listen to it whenever you visit.

A huge thank you to our friends at Hull Uni, who have helped with the judging and arranging the prizes.

Special mention goes to Suzanne MacLeod and Miriam Moore, who came second and third respectively, and whose poems will also be available on our website very soon.

And a big massive heart-felt thank you to all of our entrants, we were blown away by the quality of all the submissions, which was echoed by our judges, who commented on how tricky it was to pick a winner.

Happy National Poetry Day!!!

Works underneath Ferriby Road Bridge

Update 31 July 2023:

Please note that the lane closure and traffic management underneath Ferriby Road Bridge has been moved to today (31 July) and tomorrow (1 August). We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Original 24 July 2023: We will be carrying out essential maintenance work to the underneath of Ferriby Road bridge starting on Thursday 27th July until November 2023

To ensure safety of the travelling public and the workforce, we will need to install local lane closures on Ferriby Road itself at various times throughout the works. These will be advertised and publicised using our social media channels and website.

Upcoming Ferriby Road lane closure dates:

  • Thursday 27th – Friday 28th July
  • Thursday 3rd – Friday 4th August

We will try to keep disruption to a minimum but please allow extra time for your journey if travelling during this time, and drive carefully through the roadworks.

Overnight Works 25th/26th July

We are carrying out maintenance work on the Bridge on Tuesday (25th July) overnight. The northbound tag lane will be closed from 8pm Tuesday to 6am Wednesday to accommodate this.

Please note that you will still be able to cross the Bridge as usual, and HumberTag customers can use the Toll Booths.

There will also be a lane closure in place southbound (prior to the toll booths), however, the southbound tag lane will remain open.

Overnight Works – 13/14th May 2023

We will be carrying out overnight works on the Bridge this Saturday evening (13th May) until Sunday morning (14th May) to avoid disruption during the daytime

From 8pm Saturday evening – 9am Sunday morning, both the northbound and southbound Tag lanes will be closed and there will be a Contraflow in place. Please note that you will still be able to cross the Bridge in either direction, and HumberTag customers can still use the Toll Booths.

This will enable us to carry out essential carriageway surfacing works and streetlight repairs in the Southbound carriageway.

Please allow extra time for your journey if travelling during this time, and drive carefully through the roadworks.

Bridge Load Trial

This Thursday night (30th March 2023) we will be carrying some investigations on the bridge using a convoy of vehicles. This is so we can measure how the bridge reacts under this load and is part of a planned inspection and maintenance program. .

The convoy of vehicles will travel across the bridge and at set points specialist measuring equipment will tell our team what is happening. This data will then be processed and will be used as part of the future inspection and maintenance program.

The work will be carried out late on Thursday night, when traffic is minimal, and will require a single lane at a time. This means that you will be able to cross the Bridge as normal. However, if you are using the Bridge on Thursday night, please keep an eye out for these slow moving vehicles.

Overnight Works Week Commencing 20th March 2023

We will be carrying out overnight works on the Bridge from Monday to Thursday (20th – 23rd March).

The current lane closure northbound will remain in place for the remainder of this week and all of Monday (20th March 2023).

From Tuesday – Thursday there will be overnight lane closures in place between 7pm and 5am. The Northbound Tag lane will be closed on Wednesday and the Southbound Tag lane will be closed Thursday during this time – please note that HumberTag customers can still use the Toll Booths.

During these times we will undertake a variety of essential maintenance activities including: new white lining on the road surface, repairs to crash barriers, road lighting upgrades, drain cleaning and replacement of a bearing to the bridge deck.

To ensure the safety of both the workforce and drivers, there will be lane closures in both directions which will change each night as the work progresses.

You will still be able to cross the Bridge.
